Game of Thrones - Ascent

July 30th 2015 04:51
Game of Thrones Ascent is a strategy game developed by Disruptor Beam. The game is an adaptation of the novel series A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin and the HBO TV series Game of Thrones, and is the first such social network game.

According to Martin, the game features "alliance building, treachery, marriages, murders, and most of all - the constant struggle to be the greatest house in Westeros." The game includes the ability to engage in the dynamic political and social intrigue featured in the books and television show. The game has over 9 million players.

The player takes on the role of the head of a minor house, swearing allegiance to one of the Great Houses of Westeros, building and managing a keep and army of Sworn Swords. Players complete quests and build their holdings as solo play, making choices that influence their alignment and affect future quests.

They can also engage in player versus player conflict, both one-on-one with individual players, or as part of an Alliance in larger-scale wars.

The game closely follows the HBO television series, with weekly content updates following the airing of each episode. Quests allow the player to participate in major events from the story in various ways, as well an original storyline exploring the character's past and current events at your holdings.

The player selects their primary location by swearing fealty to House Stark, House Lannister, House Greyjoy, House Baratheon, House Targaryen, House Tyrell, House Tully, or House Martell. However, the character visits many notable locations through the course of the game, including several famous places in Essos.

Kerbal Space Program

October 4th 2014 06:21
Kerbal Space Program (commonly abbreviated to KSP) is a space flight simulator developed by Squad currently in public alpha development for release on Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. Notable members of the space industry have taken an interest in the game.

The player controls a nascent space program operated by Kerbals, a race of small green humanoids, who have constructed a fully furnished and functional spaceport (known as the Kerbal Space Center, or KSC) on their homeworld Kerbin, similar to Earth.
Kerbals are generally shown as funny cartoon-like little green men, sometimes lacking common sense, resulting in an endless stream of flight volunteers with no care for safety procedures, but they have shown to be able to construct very-well-made spacecraft parts and perform experiments in the lab.

Gameplay consists of constructing rockets and spaceplanes out of a provided set of components and launching them from the in-game space center's launch pad or runway, then going on to complete their desired mission while averting catastrophic failure.

The game has been praised for its realistic representation of orbital mechanics. Every object in the game except the celestial bodies themselves are under the control of a Newtonian dynamics simulation. Rocket thrust and aerodynamic forces are applied accurately to a vehicle's frame based on the positions in which the force-generating elements are mounted. The strength of the joints connecting parts together is finite and vehicles can be torn apart by excessive or inappropriately directed forces.

Other activities in the game include exploration, gathering resources, crafting, and combat. Gameplay in its commercial release has two principal modes: survival, which requires players to acquire resources and maintain their health and hunger; and creative, where players have an unlimited supply of resources, the ability to fly, and no health or hunger
