Lord of The Rings - MUME

June 13th 2008 09:02
Created in 1991 by Philippe Rochat - MUME, Multi-Users in Middle-earth, is a game, one of the early offsprings of DikuMUD and one of the oldest DikuMUDs still running

Mume. Lord of the rings. LOTR
MUME Realm: 25'000 open rooms
The setting of this MUD (multi-user domain) is in the Third Age, before the War of the Ring, where you can take on the role of a noble Dúnadan or Man of one of the other races (including shape-shifting Beornings), a sturdy Dwarf, a sneaky Hobbit, or a proud Elf. You can also take on a persona of an Orc, a Troll, or a Black Númenórean. MUME is notable in that it maintains a player-killing aspect by allowing the players of evil characters to battle the players of good characters but restricts other player-killing, which allows you to wander off in search of a few hours of role-playing escapism.

MUME has interesting player dynamic, in that players can join on either side of the on-going war between good and evil. Role-playing is also encouraged on this MUD in a number of ways.

The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar (commonly abbreviated to LOTRO) is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) for Microsoft Windows set in a fantasy universe based upon J. R. R. Tolkien's Middle-earth writings. It takes place during the time period of The Lord of the Rings.
Lord of the rings online MMORPG

The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar was developed by Turbine, is subscription-based, and requires Internet access. It launched in Canada, the United States, Australia, Japan and Europe on April 24, 2007.

Common to other games in this genre, the player controls a character avatar which can move around anywhere in the game world and interact with other player characters. When the player exits the game, the game world continues to exist and other players around the globe continue to interact, making it a persistent world. The main emphasis of the game is to improve your character by increasing in level, which simultaneously increases character skills and other abilities. The method of increasing character level in The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar is commonly referred to as player versus environment (PvE) combat and storyline adventures. This refers to the type of play in which the player character interacts within the game by defeating monsters or collecting items and returning them to computer characters, as opposed to a player versus player (PvP) type of interaction.

Jennifer Government: NationStates

May 16th 2008 14:06
Jennifer Government: NationStates is a multiplayer nation simulation browser game. It was created by Max Barry in late 2002, based loosely on his novel Jennifer Government.

Players manage simulated nations, reacting to computer-generated situations and events by choosing from a list of possible government policies, and watching how the essential statistics of the nation, its economic wealth, political freedom, and so on, are affected. Players are encouraged to define their own goals for the sort of nation they want to build, ranging from complete anarchy to Jennifer Government-style corporate capitalism to a centrist democratic republic to pure Marxist-Leninist socialism.

The game takes on additional depth as players join the United Nations, voting on proposed resolutions that every country agrees to abide by. Such discussions take place on the forums, often home to all manner of general political debate.

The relatively simplistic simulation has given rise to much more in-depth freeform role-playing, as players use their nations' statistics to imagine how their nations would fare in international trade, diplomacy, and even outright war. An upcoming upgrade, NationStates-2, may actually include in-game for setting trade agreements, diplomatic relations, and even states of war with other nations, but many players prefer the game in its relatively simple form, as a conversation piece stimulating thought about the nature of political axes and government decisions more than a full-fledged simulation.

Urban Dead

April 23rd 2008 08:00
Urban dead is a MMORPG set in the city of Malton after a zombie outbreak. You can choose to play as either a person (military, science, civilian), or a zombie.
The game is html/text based, so no downloading. You receive action points, which regenerate at the rate of 1 every half hour (max 50). Therefore you can play for about 5 mins a day, and then reload it the next day for some more zombie/human killing fun.

Game play usually revolves around survivors making raids on zombies then harbouring in safe houses, while zombies scour the streets looking for survivors or band together to attack a safe house. Humans and zombies can fight one another (in-fighting).

Each side in Urban Dead has its own advantages and disadvantages. Humans move faster and can use various weapons and tools. Human can also communicate with each other in-game via various means such as speech, radio broadcasting, and text messaging. They can also barricade building entrances. Zombies on the other hand can only fight with claws, teeth, or blunt weapons. The major advantage of being a zombie is you can revive when killed (for a few action points) making you immortal. Higher level zombies do have the ability to communicate in-game with groaning noises, hand gestures and basic zombie speech.

You can switch sides in Urban Dead. A Human will become a zombie if killed. Zombies can also be re-animated as living humans by a survivor who has the necessary skill and item. Remember, humans who turn into zombies don't have to switch sides!

To get started with Urban Dead, simply log onto the official site here, create a character and start killing.
For more fun you could create two accounts, one zombie and one human!

Face of Mankind is a first/third person massively multiplayer online roleplaying game in a futuristic persistent world. The game, which may be played with a variety of points of view, leans heavily on roleplay and community, thanks to a powerful faction system and completely player-driven politics. It is also the first game of its kind to use a player-generated mission system.

Players throughout the game world co-operate, compete or co-exist in a realistic and futuristic world of the 24th century. The plot is constantly evolving, with storylines being constantly started by the game's staff. The skill and luck of the players from rival factions change the balance of power. Highly ranked players create missions which are split and handed down through the hierarchy. The ultimate objective of the game is to evolve one's character to its ultimate potential, whether that is the accumulation of wealth, power, social status, or a combination of all three

Disney's Toontown Online

August 31st 2007 12:50
Toontown Online (more commonly known as Toontown) is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game created by The Walt Disney Company and billed as the first such game intended for kids and families. Designed for children as young as seven, the depth of the game's content has drawn in many older players as well. Toontown's 3D virtual world takes its theme from the colourful style and humour of classic animated cartoons, packaged into an online game experience that is designed to be social, non-violent and kid-safe.

In the game, each player takes the role of a Toon — a cartoon character based on an anthropomorphic animal: a dog, cat, mouse, duck, rabbit, horse, monkey, bear or pig. Players choose the species and customize the look of their toons when they first start the game. The game tutorial explains that Toons must work together to rid the streets from the ongoing menace of the "Cogs" — robots dressed in business suits who are trying to transform the bright and cheerful Toontown into a gray, corporate world. For example, when a Cog enters a building in Toontown, it changes into a "Cog building" — a drab gray office building
