3D Chess
July 15th 2009 02:42
Matrixchess is a three dimensional variant of the chess game. Instead of one chess board, there are several boards above each other. Matrixchess presents the game in full 3D-graphics, with lots of viewing functions.
Apart from the classic 2D chess game, Matrixchess offers 5 types of 3D computer chess variants:
8x4x2 : 2 boards with size 8x4 fields above each other (classic chess "Calzone")
8x8x2 : 2 boards with size 8x8 fields above each other
8x4x4 : 4 boards with size 8x4 fields above each other
5x5x5 : 5 boards with size 5x5 fields above each other (boards same as "Raumschach")
8x8x8 : 8 boards with size 8x8 fields above each other
The fields are thus forming a matrix, in which the chess pieces move. All chess rules are extrapolated to the 3D-chess game rules. All pieces can move to the other boards similar to how they move within a 2D chess game. Even (in passing) capturing by pawns and castling are 3-dimensional.
Matrixchess contains a strong chess engine, making it possible to play against the computer. You can also play against other people on-line, using the "Playing" menu of this web site.
The best way to learn is to just try it. The game will show the valid moves if you click on a piece. Try the free download!
