Theme Park

November 30th 2007 10:30
Theme Park is a sim game designed by Bullfrog Productions and originally released in 1994, in which the player designs and operates an amusement park.

Like most of Bullfrog's games, Theme Park is permeated by an eccentric sense of humor.

Starting with a free plot of land in the United Kingdom and few hundred thousand dollars, the player must build a profitable amusement park, making money by opening rides and selling merchandise and refreshments. The goal is to increase the park's value and available cash so that the park can be sold and a new lot can be bought from another part of the world and start building a new theme park. Newer products can be bought after researching them. Once enough money has been made the player can move on to newer plots. Plots are located all over the world and have many different factors that affect gameplay, including the economy, terrain and land value.

There are over thirty attractions available in the game. Depending on the platform, it is possible to tour the park or the rides. There are simple rides like the bouncy castle and tree house, and more complicated and expensive rides like the roller coaster.

There is a focus in the staff side of the park as well. People employed in the park include entertainers, security guards, mechanics, and cleaners. Lack of staff can cause problems, including messy parks, blown up rides, crime and sad visitors. Occasionally wages must be renegotiated; failure to renegotiate results in staff strikes. Theme Park offers several levels of simulation, with higher difficulties requiring more management of aspects such as logistics.

You can now download theme park for free from Dos Games Online here.

Railroad Tycoon

November 28th 2007 10:16
Sid Meier's Railroad Tycoon is an economic simulation and computer strategy game.
The objective of the game is to build and manage a railroad company by laying track, building stations, and buying and scheduling trains. The game models supply and demand of goods and passengers as well as a miniature stock market on which players can buy and sell stock of their own or competing companies.
Railroad Tycoon free

The original version allowed the player to start companies in several settings: the U.S. West and Midwest or the Northeast, England, and (on a smaller scale including southern England) Europe.
The player manages the business as described above and may also handle individual train movement and build additional industries. The game also has other railroad companies attempting to put the player out of business with stock dealings and "Rate Wars".
The player starts with one million dollars, half as equity, half as loan. The player can get more cash by selling $500,000 bonds at various interest rates (which depend on the current economic condition in the game).
There are four types of stations: Signal Tower, Depot, Station, and Terminal. The Signal Tower acts as a passing loop and may control movements. The rest service surrounding areas: the Depot serves its own square and the adjoining eight squares, the Station takes another ring, and the Terminal handles up to three squares away. The player can build at most 32 stations. When the player builds the first station they also build their first engine shop. Each engine shop is the manufacturing area for the player's different trains. The player can upgrade and downgrade Depots, Stations, and Terminals. Other facilities such as cool stores and hotels may be added.
Once the player builds a station they can build their first train (of the 32 permitted) at any engine shop. The player then can add cars to the train and send it on its way. The player can at any time change the "consist", which is the list of cars the train is to pick up at the various stations along the way. These include pure mail and passenger cars and specialized freight cars for each of the other nine types of commodity produced in the game.
The player can continue to build the track network and build stations until the player runs out of funds. The game runs for a century, with accounting periods two years long. Stations built or rebuilt in a particular accounting period pay the player double freight rates for everything they purchase in that period. It can be worthwhile rebuilding busy ones every two years.
Mail pays much better when delivered quickly. Other cargoes also pay better for faster delivery, but at the "bulk" end of the scale there is little advantage (the manual incorrectly says there is none). It is usually better to hold a train at a source station until several bulk cars are full before setting off.
Train speed is a factor to be considered when laying track. Saving money up front by laying track straight over a mountain instead of around on the plains or through an expensive tunnel may cause slow trains which lose money in the long run. Similar considerations apply to ferries, which are expensive and slow-running but may in some cases be economic if they greatly shorten a distance.
Not every station buys everything offered to it. Some good producers buy nothing. There are two alternatives the player can choose between: Simple Economy (where, for example, a station serving two or more cities will buy anything) and Complex Economy (where "two cities" will buy mail, passengers, and a couple of other products; "four villages" will buy passengers and different freight products; only a station with a steel mill will buy coal; and other products have other buyer types). There are product variations over the four geographical scenarios.

How Well do you Know Your World

November 26th 2007 09:47
This is a fantastic way to test your geography skills. Your given locations around the world, and you have to click on the map where you think they are. The closer you get, the more points you will score. You also score more points for being quick. A certain number of points are required to proceed to the next level and there are 12 in all. It gets really hard towards the end so keep concentrating, but it's a lot of fun.

Mardek RPG: Chapter 2

November 23rd 2007 10:54
This is the second chapter of this in-depth and plot-driven RPG. It features up to 10 hours of gameplay!

Comments from the author:

At long last! After many annoying delays, the second chapter of MARDEK is released! Huzzah!

If you've not played the first one, I recommend that you find it and do so, or else parts of this may not make sense.

There are many improvements in this chapter, and it's much, MUCH longer. The first chapter only served as a short introduction, but this is a full-length RPG (I'd say there are about '10 hours' of gameplay, but it all depends on the player).
This game is STORY-DRIVEN, though; the action is there to support the story, not the other way around. There's a LOT of dialogue! I'm aware some of you don't like reading and would rather just mindlessly kill things, but... well, thinking should be more encouraged or something?!

All the content in this game (except the sound effects) is by me.
I did all the coding, drew all the graphics, animated all the animations, and composed all the music.

Since this is the initial public release, there may still be some bugs in there somewhere. If you find any, please report them to me so then I can fix them!

Also, this game is probably somewhat challenging. If you can't beat a boss or something, that doesn't mean the game is flawed; it means that you're an inept player, whether you're too arrogant to accept that or not.

Age of War

November 21st 2007 10:45
The goal of the game is to survive and destroy the enemy base.
The game is divided into 5 ages. To move to the next stage, you need XP points. To gain these points, you have to kill enemy units. You also gain XP points when one of your units is killed. You can also build defenses. Finding the balance between defense and offense is the key. You will also be able to use a special attack, this attack will take time to recharge. Each age has its own special attack. You can't repair your base, but it will gain health points when you move to the next age. Protect you base at all costs.

Press space to pause the game at any time.

Comments from the author:
Take control of 16 different units and 15 different turrets to defend your base and destroy your enemy.
In this game, you start at the cavern men's age, then evolve! There is a total of 5 ages, each with its units and turrets. I hope you have fun with this game! Sooo many hours of hard work.

Yahtzee Deluxe

November 16th 2007 11:03
The object of Yahtzee is to score the most points by rolling five dice to make certain combinations. The dice can be rolled up to three times in a turn to try to make one of the thirteen possible scoring combinations. A game of Yahtzee consists of thirteen rounds during which the player chooses which scoring combination is to be used in that round. Once a combination has been used in the game, it cannot be used again.

Each of the scoring combinations has a different point value, some of which are fixed values and others of which have the cumulative value of the dice. A Yahtzee is a five-of-a-kind and holds the game's highest point value of 50

The Incredible Machine

November 14th 2007 01:44
The general objective of The Incredible Machine (TIM) is to arrange a given collection of objects in a needlessly complex fashion so as to perform some simple task (for example, "put the ball into a box" or "light a candle"). Available objects ranged from simple ropes and pulleys to electrical generators, bowling balls and even cats and mice. The levels usually have some fixed objects that cannot be moved by the player, and so the only way to solve the puzzle is carefully arrange the given objects around the fixed items. There is also a "freeform" option that allows the user to "play" with all the objects with no set goal or to also build their own puzzles with goals for other players to attempt to solve.

The Lemmings Chronicles

November 12th 2007 01:35
All New World of Lemmings (ANWoL) is a computer game released in 1994, as the third game in the popular Lemmings puzzle game series. In North America, the game was named The Lemmings Chronicles. It was published by Psygnosis and was the last Lemmings game developed by DMA Design.

The game play remained similar to the original games, requiring the player to lead all the lemmings to their exit by giving them the appropriate "skills". However, as the game's title suggests, both the game play as well as the graphics were "all new". Fans disagree on whether or not this made it a better game, but no more lemmings games were made in the same style

Doom

November 7th 2007 01:19
Doom is a 1993 computer game by id Software that is a landmark title in the first-person shooter genre. It is widely recognized for pioneering immersive 3D graphics, networked multiplayer gaming on the PC platform, and support for custom expansions (WADs). Distributed as shareware, Doom was downloaded by an estimated 10 million people within two years, popularizing the mode of gameplay and spawning a gaming subculture; as a sign of its impact on the industry, games from the mid-1990s boom of first-person shooters are often known simply as "Doom clones". Its graphic and interactive violence has also made Doom the subject of much controversy reaching outside the gaming world. According to GameSpy, Doom was voted by industry insiders to be the greatest game of all time in 2004.

If you're interested in the original classic you can now play Doom for free from DoomWorld here. It's just a small download to your PC

Peggle

November 5th 2007 11:57
Peggle is a Windows downloadable game from PopCap Games.

Each level features a colourful 2D background filled with different coloured "pegs". The objective in each stage is to clear all of the orange pegs by hitting them with a ball shot from the top of the screen. The game requires strategy to bounce the ball off pegs and other obstacles to clear as much of the level as possible with the given number of balls. There are also blue pegs (which have no effect other than increasing your score), purple pegs (which are worth 50 times the amount of the blue pegs), and green pegs (which activate your power-up based on the character you have selected). There is an option for those who are color blind which adds a triangle to the green pegs and a plus to the purple pegs to make them easier to distinguish. Scrolling across the bottom of the screen is the "free ball bucket" which awards the player an extra ball should the previous shot go in
