Star Wars Combine

March 26th 2007 09:30
Star Wars Combine is a free online player-based simulation revolving around the Star Wars universe. Since its inception in 1999 it has been in a constant state of development, it is not affiliated with LucasArts, and stands as an entirely fan-developed game. One of its most unique features is that it is developed largely by its players, and in December 2006 it had approximately 3000 active members.

One of the Combine's greatest strengths is its broad diversity of factions that players can join. There are typically 50-100 active factions ranging from medical factions, to pirates, banks and droid producers.

The Combine boasts a self-sustaining economy that overarches just about every action in the game. Players are now required to mine raw materials through mining factions and then process them through individual production factions in order to build ships, vehicles or any other in-game entities.

It would be impossible to explain all aspects of the game in this blog, best if you give it a try!

Genre: MMORPG
Time to Play: As long as you like

Virtual Villagers

March 23rd 2007 15:24
Virtual Villagers is a 2006 village simulator from independent game publisher Last Day of Work.

The story is that one day, a volcanic eruption causes a small tribe of people to flee their homeland. Soon, they are washed ashore on the island of Isola, and you, the player, become their benevolent overseer. Isola is a bountiful small island, but work needs to be done and you need to help your villagers survive by telling them what to do.

The player trains their villagers to farm, breed, build, research, and heal, in an effort to solve puzzles and start island events. The villagers explore Isola (the fictitious island) on their own, with some direction provided by the player. The game simulation progresses in real time even when the game is not running, even when the computer is off; Later, when the player begins playing again, the simulation calculates the result of the simulation during the intervening time. Some of your little villagers can die, due to lack of food. When your villagers have run out of food, you can use Tech Points that you gain from research, to buy their abilities to fish, farm, or forage. But, once there are no more living villagers, the game is over. Because of improving their lifestyles, the game can last for months for the player to win. There are sixteen steps and no game levels for the game.

Genre: Real Time Strategy
Time to Play: Months
Difficulty: Medium

Time Waster

March 19th 2007 14:55
As you may have guessed the object of this game is to help you waste time while you’re online. It consists of three separate games for you to choose from. The Button Press, Words and Don’t Click. In Button Test, you have to press the right buttons in the right order within the time limit. The levels become harder and harder so be quick and make sure you read the instruction carefully before beginning each level. The other two games are just a bit of fun but worth trying.
