Backgammon

November 30th 2006 23:59
Backgammon is a board game for two players in which pieces are moved according to the roll of dice and the winner is the first to remove all his pieces from the board.

The game is essentially a race, and luck plays a measurable role, but backgammon offers a significant scope for strategy. With each roll of the dice, a player must choose between numerous options for moving the checkers, and plan for possible counter-moves by his opponent. Opportunities for raising the stakes of the game introduce more strategic intricacies.

The objective of backgammon is to move all of one's own checkers past those of one's opponent and then remove them from the board. The pieces are scattered at first and may be blocked or hit by the opponent. Because the playing time for each individual game is short, it is often played in matches, where victory is awarded to the first player to reach a certain number of points. You can view detailed Backgammon rules here.

Backgammon is easy to play once you get into it, however like most board games the rules can sound a bit complicated at first. The best way to learn is to have a go!

In this free online version you can create and join open or private games, or simply play the computer. You can vary the computer difficulty from 1 to 10.

Genre: 2 player board games.
Time to Play: 15 minutes
Difficulty: medium
Available From: NabiscoWorld

Battle for the Ashes

November 27th 2006 23:25
This is a fantastic two player cricket game where one player bowls while the other bats, then vice versa. In the one player version you bat while the computer bowls. There are a few controls to remember and they are below:

Batting Player 1 Player 2
Normal Shot and run -> L B
Attacking Shot -> K V
Up -> Up Arrow W
Down -> Down Arrow S
Left -> Left Arrow A
Right -> Right Arrow D

• Use the directional keys to choose which direction to play your shot.
• The red target shows where the ball will pass.
• When the circle says "HIT!". Press the attacking or normal shot key.

Bowling (2 Player Only)
• Use the directional keys (W,S,A,D) to position your bowling marker. Press one of the shot buttons (B,V) to place it.
• As the bowler runs in you have limited time to adjust the amount of spin applied to the ball using the directional keys (W,S,A,D).

Fielding (2 Player Only)
• Your fielder will be highlighted with a coloured circle. Use the directional keys to control him.
• He will automatically pick up and throw the ball back, or catch it if in the air.

The controls sound complicated but they're actually quite easy. The game is a lot of fun.
You can play as England or Australia and you have 5 overs to make as many runs as you can. Good luck!

Genre: Cricket
Time to Play: 20 minutes
Difficulty: medium

Literati

November 6th 2006 00:56
Literati is a word game where up to four players compete by creating words from various letter tiles. The game is played on a 15x15 grid on which players create words by placing tiles at intersections on the grid. Certain intersections have special values and can increase a player's score. Scores are totalled off the point values of each letter tile plus any bonuses. The first player creates a word using the centre intersection and everyone, in turn, must play off of the tiles on the board to create new words. The game is over when all the letter tiles are played or no player can spell a valid word with the tiles they have left. The player with the highest score wins the game.

Scoring is based off the total points each letter is worth, plus any bonuses from placing the word or letter on a special grid intersection. The following chart explains the point value for each letter tile

Rooney on the Rampage

Your aim in this funny flash game is to play as Wayne Rooney and head butt various players and score a goal at the end. Press SPACEBAR or click LEFT MOUSE BUTTON to make Rooney headbutt his opponents out of his way. Time it well (hit them more on the face) to build up your speed. Jump over the wall of players in the end by setting the right angle of jump. You need to be fast enough to jump over the players. This game recalls the incident of FIFA World Cup 2006 Finals when Zidane head butts Materazzi. Good luck

It’s just you versus the goalie in this game of precision puck handling. You’ve got two minutes to score as many goals as you can.
Pucks have different points values, from lowest to highest - black, red, yellow & green. You can also collect coins to get bonus points. Some power-ups will appear that give such advantages as freezing the goalie or making him disappear for a shot so keep a look out for those!
It you collect a gold star, a hot spot will be activated. Score from the hot spot for multiple points
